About Rich Text Files
Posted by Patty...

Patty Rich Text files are just another type of document file, like a Word file, Wordperfect file, Wordpad file, Works file, text file, etc. The difference is that Rich Text files are an _old_ format so it won't store things like movies or really complex stuff. However, it is nice because if you just have nicely formatted text or something, then you can save it in a rich text file. You would do this because you can open it in any program and it will look the same in all of them. For example, suppose you have a simple, nicely formatted file that you made in Word and you want to send it to your friend that only has Wordperfect or has a really old computer with an old version of Word or something. They may not be able to open your Word file, and even if they could, it would be all screwed up and not look the same. If you saved it as a rich text file, however, your friend would be able to read it and have it look exactly like the one you made... even with the really old computer.
