Macros in Word
Posted by Patty...

Patty Macros are little programs written inside Word. They can be either really complicated, which a computer program would write, or they can be really simple, which an average user might do. For example, I could write a macro that, oh I don't know, color coded all your headings or made special tables or something. They have a "record macro" feature where any user can just start recording, and then do some stuff, and then hit stop. Then, they can re-run the macro anytime they want so they don't have to do the work over again. For example, you could hit the record macro button, then type "Patty Adams Rocks", then make it bold italic Arial 18pt font with blinking text and put it inside of a huge table. Then you hit Stop Recording. Then, you could select the "Patty Rocks" macro and it would make you another one of those pretty tables everytime you hit it.

The concern with macros is that they can actually contain viruses or just do bad things to your computer. If you are opening a word document, and it has macros, Word will ask you to make sure you want to enable them. If you weren't expecting the document to have macros, then disable the macros, because otherwise you might get a virus from it.
This is especially important if you are downloading things from the internet
