Adding Bookmarks to Word for a Quick Search in an Alphabetical List
Posted by Patty...

Patty This can be used for searching quickly in an alphabetical list. An alphabet list at the top of the document will link down to each section (a words, b words, etc.).

If you want a little gray mark to show where your bookmark is, (This is a good idea if you are going to be adding a lot to the document.) go to Tools>Options>View Tab> Show>Bookmarks.
Set up the hyperlinks-bookmarks by making a list across the top A through Z – the kind that appears in the Acrobat Help Index. Prepare your alphabetical list by putting a big bold A above all the As, a big bold B above all the Bs and so on through the alphabet.

Then go to the big bold letter A in the list of words. Insert Bookmark.
Type in the bookmark name and hit ADD. This will create a little gray mark where the bookmark will be. (Do not have any spaces or even hyphens in the name of the bookmark. It will not let you.)
Then go to where the hyperlink will go. Go back up to the alphabet list at the top. Go to A. Insert Hyperlink. On the left side boxes, choose “place in this document.” Go to your list of bookmarks. Highlight “A” OK.
A blue “A” will appear in your list. Delete the regular typed A. Test the link by hitting Control-click.

When you are moving around in the document the bookmark will move with the type UNLESS you put your cursor directly on the type that the bookmark is on. So if you want to move the letter E for example, do it above it not directly on it. The gray marks will help you with that.
