Creating your own keyboard shortcuts (or keyboard strokes) in Word
Posted by Patty...

Patty To set up a new keyboard stroke or strokes which are not already included in insert tools.

To do it in Word:

Go to Tools | Customize | Options Tab, then hit the Keyboard... button at the bottom.

In the window that comes up, go to the upper left listbox (labeled Categories:) and scroll down all the way to the bottom and click "Common Symbols". Then, in the box on the right, look for "- En Dash" or whatever it is. Click on it. In the "specify keyboard sequence" section below it, it should say Ctrl + Num -. Ok. So click into the text box labeled Press New Shortcut key. Now hit what you want the new thing to be. You can try to use Ctrl - again, but that one is already assigned to "Optional Hyphen". If you don't care about optional hyphen, you can overwrite it, otherwise you'll have to find something else.
